Nine safety rules
Keeping prices and stock in step with a supplier is easy when everything works. These rules are for when it doesn't. They come from real failures seen in this kind of work, and every check follows all nine.
Rule 1: A page we couldn't read is never treated as discontinued or out of stock.
Stops a slow or broken supplier site turning your products off.
The supplier's site times out at 2 am. We retry, then report “link broken”. Your listing keeps selling at its current price and stock.
Rule 2: “Removed” or “out of stock” needs the same answer on two separate checks.
Stops one bad reading hiding a product that is still for sale.
A supplier page shows “sold out” for an hour while they restock. The next check says “in stock”, so nothing reaches your inbox.
Rule 3: Automation never lowers a price by default.
Stops your margin quietly shrinking because a supplier ran a sale.
Recovery tracks drop from $44.00 to $38.50 at the supplier. You see the drop and choose: lower to $59.95 or keep $69.95.
Rule 4: Never below your minimum margin.
Stops selling at a loss after a cost or shipping change.
Your minimum margin is 25%. A new cost would leave 18%, so the change is held for you instead of applied.
Rule 5: A change bigger than your limit (default ±30%) is flagged as unusual and can never be pushed automatically.
Stops typos and glitches on the supplier side, like $649.00 becoming $6.49.
A dual battery kit jumps 62%. It is flagged, and you check the supplier page before deciding.
Rule 6: If more than 20% of a supplier's links fail in one check, that supplier's whole check is held and reported.
Stops partial updates from a supplier site that is half down.
150 of 400 links fail. We change nothing for that supplier, tell you once, and retry.
Rule 7: A locked product is never changed.
Stops overwriting prices you set by hand, like a clearance or a bundle deal.
Your snatch strap is locked at $89.95. The supplier raises their price; your price stays $89.95.
Rule 8: Nothing reaches Shopify without your approval, unless you turn on auto-push for that supplier.
Stops surprises. You see every change before your customers do.
Every change waits in your review inbox until you approve, edit or skip it.
Rule 9: Every push is logged and can be undone in one click.
Stops a wrong approval becoming a long night of fixing.
You approve 40 changes and spot one mistake. Undo puts that product back exactly as it was.
